Lately I have been watching Mr. Robot. Its a TV show about a hacker which is pretty accurate. They have several hacker consultants on the production team to make it realistic. Some of the scenarios described in this video have been dramatized in the show. It's crazy how relatively easy it is to hack these major systems that are just too antiquated. I believe an "act of war" and 'war crimes" are well defined regardless of if they are conducted with conventional weapon or cyber weapons.

The video brings up some good points. There should be more talks about this issue in the international community which will hopefully lead to laws regarding cyber warfare. Otherwise, there won't be much deterrent for cyber crimes, and there would also be higher risk that cyber crime causing a conventional war (i.e. hack and physical military counter attack).

This video brings up a lot of good points about the lack of international laws when it comes to cyber crime or cyber warfare. Technology keeps advancing at an ever increasing pace without legal issues being studied regarding the technology and sometimes without security inherent to the technology itself when developed. What is interesting is that I have heard some experts predict humans will merge with technology soon and we will all have technological devices implanted in our body and brain. It seems like science fiction but each day we are getting closer to this actuality. What's scary is often the devices are being created without much analysis and debate regarding laws related to the technology. Also if we have devices implanted in our brain (as people like Ray Kurzweil talk about will happen soon) and the source code is closed then it's hard to trust those devices. Basically I hope the laws catch up and get ahead of the technology soon but it seems unlikely.

Like any war, attacking your opponents with cyber-attacks will not help resolve any problems. Like the example in the video, it will cause more problems and no one will come to any conclusion. And I agree with the video the solutions are peace making or coming up with laws that abide by both parties. In the past, majority of the wars were resolved after peace treaty. And if one nation is been cyber attacked and the nation knowing the cyber attacker country, should reach out in a peaceful manner to see if the initiation was from the government or from a public who attacked out of hatred. This makes a different because punishing a whole nation out of one individual isn’t right thing to do. However, getting attacked isn’t also ideal. Therefore, compensation be made for the loss that was done to the attacked nation. And at that point, some laws must be put in place to avoid future attacks. This should also give the attacked nation to strengthen their systems from getting any further attacks.
