Wish the video was a bit more technical, seemed like more of an advert on the military's cyber training program (but I guess that makes sense since it's an Army video). It's great that they provide so many resources and opportunities - it's reassuring to see the military recognizing how prevalent cyber warfare is and providing the funding. Seems like the military members in the program are really excited about what they are learning and grateful to be there. Also great that the training is hands on; I believe that is the best and most interesting way to learn.

This video was originally published on April 16, 2013 and discusses the Air Force's 39th Information Operations Squadron at Hurlbert Field, FL. The entire video smacks of a marketing pitch for the their cyberwarfare training, but goes into little specifics of what is covered. The training appears to be led by civilian contractors from the SANS Institute for 9-weeks and earns the military students a civilian cyber certification. What I found interesting was seeing a number of women, at least in this particular class, enrolled in the training. As a college professor, I see very few women who have an interest in Information Technology coursework; so, I find it interesting whenever I see a classroom environment that contains more than just a few “token” women students. What was also interesting to note was how the military constantly referred to their software tools as “weapons systems” as if they were a piece of military hardware like an aircraft. Based on the description of the work performed at their final operational duty, it sounds as if they are nothing more than glorified operational network administrators looking to harden the Air Force networks rather than attacking networks of adversaries. I was generally unimpressed with this entire video.

Very interesting video on training of cyber warriors. The military is identifying individuals from base communication officers to highly trained cyber leaders. Interesting to see how the military is moving military personnel from battle to cyber training of mission ready cyber warriors. I am glad to see that the military is well aware of the usefulness of cyber intelligence and its importance in the military operations. It’s important to use cyber intelligence to protect the US. It’s also interesting to see how the military is joining up with private institutions to train the military in network warfare. Glad we are well prepared for a cyber conflict-hope we can avoid it though.

The Department of Defense is investing heavily in training their service members to be Cyber Defense Experts. In order to ensure proper training, several training environments have been set up. To complement the training, they also need environments to test software that meet DOTMLPF solutions. For this they've stood up several Cyber Test Range facilities. Of the several that exists, the one that I am most familiar with is the National Cyber Range hosted by the OSD (Office of the Secretary of Defense). The purpose of this Test Range is to : 1. provide an environment to test the effectiveness of Cyber Defenses 2. provide an environment to test the effectiveness of Cyber Weapons. 3. Train Cyber Warfighters 4. Rehearse Mission 5. Tactics Techniques Procedures Development 6. Range Assets Change Rapidly The mission of the NCR is to "Provide secure facilities, innovative technologies, repeatable processes, and the skilled workforce ".

39th IOS Information Operation School is the place where the US Military gets cyber training. In my opinion, this video is really interesting. The video shows how important the cyberspace for US military especially U.S Air Force. As the video mention, cyberspace is the most exciting opportunity in Airport today because a network is the backbone of U.S Air Force. Another thing that is really interesting me which is they can teach many students with a different background in the short period time. Moreover, it also talks about how well the cyber training program gets the student ready for the cyber war. After the cyber training, the students have a basic knowledge of network warfare, so they can learn how to operate the specific weapon system. The result of training is very good because it gives the student knowledge on how and when to use the weapon system. I think 39th IOS Information Operation School provides a good cyber training program.
