I wish the reporter had gotten to interview someone who used the dark web to sell drugs, since that would have been a much more representative use of the dark web than firearms. There is a lot of irony in a government-founded program like Tor being used to hide communication from the government. I was not aware that one organization at one point controlled more than 50% of the exit nodes - I remember reading somewhere that would make it possible to de-anonymize Tor users, at least by whoever controlled the exit nodes. Obviously the organization represented by that guy from the video wouldn't do such a thing, but I'm sure some other folks would love to know who is using Tor. It makes you wonder if Tor is already compromised.

Awesome video which highlights the different and complex issues raised by TOR. This is clearly an extremely interesting topic moving forward, especially in regards to TOR remaining anonymous. Global laws do need to be expanded upon in order to realign with current technology, and the meaning of privacy needs to be re-examined. Also, the meeting with the gun seller was an eye-opening experience to see.

Great video that looks at the dark web from two different perspectives. It is simply a tool. A tool that can be used for good and evil.

I think the reporters comment near the end best sums up the deep web, "it isn't good, and it isn't bad, it's just very powerful." I can't help but think that the deep web, and anonymizing tools in general are going to result in some sort of encryption arms race between those seeking privacy on the Internet, and those wanting to know what users are doing online.
I read an article that the FBI recently hosted a dark web site as a sting operation in order to arrest a bunch of users of a child porn site. This will probably result in those kinds of users taking additional steps to safeguard their identities, resulting in law enforcement looking for ways to circumvent those protections in order to stop their activity.

It seems as though there are real privacy concerns associated with internet use. In addition, there is real criminal activity going on. There must be a balance between the two extremes. Since the internet is worldwide and privacy rules vary be country, thought needs to be given to how this is reconciled.
