Many of the same arguments made against the deep web in this video were made about the internet when it first became popular. Still it is pretty shocking to see pedophiles on forums openly discussing how to sedate children. I'm not sure the free speech argument is a valid counter to that. I knew the guy selling the guns in Germany would rationalize his enterprise by stating some equivalent of the "cars kill people too" argument. Can we hurry up and get to the time when a benevolent AI will monitor all electronic communication and punish those committing crimes?

I agree with Mike that it is shocking about what you can get on the Deep Web. I have heard of the Deep Web and the Silk Road but never really paid any attention to it until I watched this video. I really wonder if the FBI and/or Interpol have people solely dedicated to being on the Dark Web and trying to stop things from happening (e.g. selling guns, hit men, human trafficking, drug sales)?

It cannot be denied that powerful tool for communication exists and tools such as TOR can be used in both ways. Its mere existence states it was created to be anonymous and be safe from information gathering companies. But unfortunately it have given more advantage to the criminal world. Its suprising how these crime conducting people feel safe. Seems like still there is no line properly defined when it comes to online activities that should be alllowed and the which ones are crime.

Good counterpoint video to typical Darknet videos. I think the question becomes whether we allow 1,000 criminals to prosper more, in order to allow 10 freedom fighters to prosper more (since that is about the percentage). Difficult question.

We were constantly told, internet is not a safe place yet we tend to put information out there for other companies or someone with ill mind to mess around with our data. And a lot of companies are benefiting from this information without our knowledge. The sad part about the video is that the gun man who sells modified pistol and sells them to the public doesn’t fully care if that pistol was used for murder or for hunting. I see his point that a crime can still be done with legal guns but providing an easier access to the guns also means more crime can be committed. However, he is a businessman after all and like any businessman they are in business to make money and not worry if that drug they are selling will kill any patients or that food they are selling will make anyone sick let alone a gun man to worry about his community. The second shocking part is communication with the Tor guy. Though he is running a high profile website but his life isn’t easy one. He can’t take his phone, computer or freely go anywhere. Always front of the computer. But the point he made about Iran was pretty interesting. And I can’t imagine being in a place like Iran where you are being monitored like you are some objects without any feelings. The last conversation with the guy Noel, the cryptographer, was pretty interesting when he said, everyone has something to hide, something that they fear. Something that they will not tell their friends about. It’s almost sound like a deep secret in a deep web. Agree with Jenna24 to educated younger generation, however, younger generations are build with curiosity and they are ready to take that on.
