Interesting video. While you can get guns, drugs, and other things on the Darknet just keep in mind you can go to a gun show in Virginia and walk out with a handgun or rifle the same day. As a note this video would have been easier to follow if I wasn't having to read the English subtext during parts of it. I know the Darknet is out there and I have heard of Tor. What I really find disturbing about this video is the guy selling guns in Germany through the Darknet and his reasoning for selling them. I find it disturbing that he's okay with selling guns to people because you can kill a person by running them over with a car. While true, the difference is the gun they've bought is not registered so it's easier to get away with murder using a gun then to run them over with the car you have registered under your name. This is faulty reasoning, but then he has a moral code an won't sell Weapons of Mass Destruction because they're illegal. Well so are the handguns you're selling. On another note, I understand Internet activists are using Tor because freedom of speech is important. I get that completely, what I don't get is how you can stand by and do nothing when you know someone is using the servers you're running to sell child porn or something else equally repugnant and illegal. It's easy to have no moral guilt when you don't know the parties involved or have the belief that hey they could just use some other means to send this information so I've done nothing wrong. I find both the gun seller and the server runner repugnant people who are no better than the individual selling child porn. DJohns54, I agree with you on Edward Snowden. He was a contractor, he signed a non-disclosure agreement stating he would not reveal classified or sensitive information. He violated his agreement. There are channels an individual can go through to report abuses and he didn't even bother. What makes it worse is he gave that information to a foreigner, which is treason in my book. His excuse of 'I had to expose these abuses' is pathetic. He could have done this the right way by going through the appropriate channels. He broke the law and he knows it and that is why he won't come back here to face the consequences for his actions.

This video was well done. I think it's interesting that in Europe there seems to be much less trust of corporations, and more trust of the government - the opposite of what most people feel in the U.S. It would have been nice if the video went more into the architecture of the Tor network, and how it ensures anonymity.

nbodyk: I was going to say the same thing - it's just as easy to purchase a weapon at a Nation's gun show here or otherwise anywhere else. I think his reasoning was sound enough - maybe the car was a bad example - but a hammer? or any other piece of unregistered metal or wood? Logically, he's right in that he cannot control the motives for persons who purchase his weapons. I think his flaw is that there's no way he can ever know the motives, (except when they directly tell him the use) - he would be more suited to sell directly to other markets or private dealers.

This video just presents two perspectives about dark net. The guy from Motherboard tries to explain who are using these services. For instance, some people use it to sell drugs, guns and other grey stuffs. However, these services are use for people that want to protest against their regimens in countries with authoritarian authorities too. Who is right? Well, I think that all Internet services have to be regulated, but content has to be private. That is why people are using encryption to protect their contents these days.

Never surfed the dark net, but the threads posted on the forum were disturbing to read after pausing the video. I can understand the reasoning behind the gun seller and why he sells through the black market, but I am curious to hear the reasoning of child predators and them selling child porn and being a child predator. It was also weird and uncomfortable to see that an admin replied to the child predator and was supportive of him.
