kkrishnaat July 20,2015 The video is pretty disturbing. Obviously, it makes you take a conflicting look about things like Tor. Given the backlash regarding the NSA revelations, I can understand why people are taking more precautions and using browsers such as Tor, which protects their privacy from being spied on by state sponsored surveillance. On the other hand, having these tools at your disposal can facilitate criminal activity and make it difficult for the authorities. I don't think the issue is that clear cut. It's obviously disturbing that people can buy illegal weapons and other illegal things. On the other hand, with the NSA revelations and the fact that companies like Google and Facebook track your every move online, I can understand why someone would feel the need to use Tor.
TimWalshat July 21,2015 I think this video does a great job of highlighting security/law vs. privacy through the lens of some pretty shocking illicit activities.
I think we have to remember that technology is neutral. It can't take a side. Virtually every aspect of technology that is used for legal/licit purposes can be used for illicit purposes. On the one hand, you have people wanting more privacy as they hear about things such as the NSA gathering intelligence. On the other you have people who are legitimately doing illegal things who also want to hide in the same fashion.
randerson0at July 21,2015 It is really interesting and cool to see a video that does more than spew the evils of the Darknet. Exploring the point of view of people in Iran who otherwise would have to be careful of everything they say is really cool. Like the video says, this is a communication tool, it's neither good nor bad.
jhilldog77at September 17,2015 I have to agree with Tim Walsh above, technology is neutral and it cannot take a side. While it is upsetting that illicit activities are happening across the dark web, drugs and guns have always been available in the underground world; the dark web is just another avenue. We should spend more time finding uses for technology that help the world become a better place for all man kind. Companies like Google and Facebook do track our movements on the web, but they also are actively working on billion people problems - that is solutions to problems that will help at least 1 billion people. If they are using our data for that, its not so bad!
zsesayat September 21,2015 It is indeed shocking for people to just sell guns online. The interesting and scary thing in this video is, seeing this guy driving to meet someone, with a gun, in a forest. What if the bad guy wasn't alone? Claiming that the Dark net has good and bad things, I think the bad exceeds the good. Why do people want to be anonymous if they have no bad intentions? It is hard for anyone to convince me that the Darknet consist of good things. Everything about this website is about danger, drugs, illegal guns sale, child pornography, cyber attacks, contract killers etc. There should be a way to banish this site. I know when the site is banished, another would be create, but if they keep working on banishing such site, may eventually reduce these online crimes. The Darknet is scary and dangerous and if anyone claim to be a good person, should not participate in buying or selling anything on this site
