logybombat July 16,2015 I think this is a great example of the dangers of an insider threat within an organization. The attack itself wasn't anything too sophisticated or complex, but I think the access held by the attacker is the real story here. I wonder if the perpetrator was caught.
TimWalshat July 21,2015 I think this video highlighted an aspect that we often overlook in cybersecurity and that is the human factor. Who are the people on the inside? Who can do a lot of damage while bypassing many security measures. This is a great lesson in more carefully checking the backgrounds (and periodically checking them again) of those who have been given access. All the defensive measures in the world don't matter if an insider has access and can easily bypass them.
kkrishnaat July 21,2015 I think that what this video shows is that even with the sophistication of cyberattacks these days, the easiest way for an attacker to get into a system is through having someone on the inside. Rather than using a sophisticated attack, it seems that the makers of this malware simply had someone on the inside launch the attack. Often times the simplest approach is the most effective approach. In addition, it is very difficult for organizations to detect a threat from the inside.
hpasekovat July 22,2015 7. Very nicely explained how Shamoon worked. It appears to be a very destructive malware. It must have done a great damage to organizations that were infected by this virus. I hope all these organizations had their data backed up. I wonder if the hard disk is still repairable after the malware destroys the MBR.
hanna88at September 11,2015 My first reaction to this video is how easy it would be for someone with the right access to completely cripple a business or even full business sector. It seems like anyone with any sort of complaint or grievance could pop in a thumb drive and unleash all sorts of destruction. It was interesting in the video to see the clues that pointed to the work of an insider...I'm glad the narrator presented on a level understandable to those who are newer to this field.
