Everyday Cybercrime - and what you can do about it
mikebrashierat July 14,2016 Interesting video. Criminals are sneaky. I wonder how effective this is with people who do most of their computing in the cloud. If most or all of their important data is stored in Googles cloud, or amazon's, MS's, etc. who cares if they lock down your local files. Theoretically you could wipe the computer to get rid of the malware and resume access to your cloud data.
ronnypaladinoat July 15,2016 I actually seen Ransomware locking up a computer with a banner requesting an amount of $ to unlock the computer. We should never click on an unknown file and should always keep our antivirus updated. I have safe browsing, where the AV actually indicates which websites are bad when conducting searches, in addition to blocking them, if I try accessing by mistake.
Modasiyaat July 28,2016 Heard of it but saw it actually here. Interesting !! how about we bring forensic investigation in at this point and try to find find the servers which we saw the ransom ware tried to connect to in the beginning. if we had wireshark on we could have captured the whole communication. Then find out the geolocation of the server. Hey but again a thought --> if the computer is affected and we take the image of the hard drive and Live RAM dump, would it be possible to do analysis ?
michealb40at September 04,2016 Very interesting video. Many of the commenters have mentioned that we have made pretty good strides to counter CryptoLocker. While that is true, the source code is available and has unfortunately resulted in many CryptoLocking variants.
ahammes12at October 06,2016 The video is clearly informative on the importance of virus and malware detection services. I've ran into ransomware before and was actually able to get rid of it and retain all files. However this does show the issues of losing all of your personal files by not being protected at all. It actually makes me feel like the public should be more informed of situations such as this. It is pretty common for a person to have their own personal computer. However, some are not aware of the risks of not being protected. I believe their should be consistent ads on television warning people of the dangers of not being protected.
