tshafiat October 14,2015 Anyone remember the days before all this technology where you had to show your ID to use your credit card? You had your ID signed, you had to sign the receipt. The signatures can be compared. With technology and how easy it is to perform business transactions, we have stopped having to show ID. This certainly has made it a lot easier for us, and THEM.
Faisal817at October 15,2015 I didn't know its that easy to steal people cards, but the question is how did he get the chance to swipe their cards? Did he pretend to be a sales man to do what he is willing to? In my opinion if I see something wired on my transactions i will directly call my bank to see whats going on, and so if we made sure that someone is using my credit card we can easily track him if he bought some stuff from actual stores. For example the thief on this video clip went to best buy, so the bank can detect this guy using the information provided of the purchase and we can prove that using the store surveillance cameras at the time of his purchase.
brober15at October 27,2015 I found it interesting that there was a social engineering aspect to the credit card fraud as well. I wonder if these guys get nervous whenever they see a manager is working the cash register. You'd think the managers would be more detail oriented. Will be interesting to see how the thieves respond to the chip credit cards becoming more common. I remember reading that some thieves just list things on eBay without purchasing them first, then whenever the auction ends they will purchase the item from a legitimate site using the stolen card and have it shipped straight to the buyer. Seems less risky than taking a fake card into a store.
klloyd6at November 04,2015 I don't even understand why this guy agreed to go on camera scamming, I mean I guess if he's been doing it since high school he doesn't fear being caught. I know so many people who have had their card numbers skimmed it’s about time credit card companies buff of security measurements. Perhaps every card transaction should require some pin, or fingerprint recognition in order to lessen the likelihood of their card information being used.
sliu23at November 06,2015 For now, the magnetic strip card is quite easy to fake with some specific tools, and its cost wouldn’t be high. Although we have been asked to sign after using credit card, it isn’t the best way to ensure our account safe. Even without faking the card, the criminal can still use the card online if the card number, expire date and CVV number have been leaked. Therefore, I think the bank should update these credit cards to chip card, which would make the fabrication much harder and increase the cost of criminals.
