Very interesting...I do deeply doubt though that this video is real and not staged. Many banks do have monitoring systems and if the purchase is made with a card for that much and it does not match the state where the actual customer resides the transaction would usually not go through. It just seemed too easy. Also, I just got to mention the attitude this guy had going on, clearly thinks he knows it all!

I think this was a great video showing just how easy it is for a credit card to be skimmed. Of course what they did not show is getting the skimmer into a store, but we all know this happens daily. Many times a credit card can be used in other states because is not reported as stolen. This is very problematic as if you don’t know you have been skimmed, most companies will allow a few charges to go through before they catch the fact that yesterday you were in Virginia at Tysons Corner, and now you have 3 charges in Houston, Texas. A few charges are all the bad guy needs to keep on going. Sure you will be reimbursed, but now you are the victim of credit card fraud. Also, once the data has been pulled from skimmers, it can be sent securely via the internet to anywhere else in the world in a matter of seconds. This is usually in the same city you are in, so the card can be produced and used within a few hours because, and then it does not trigger an alert to the credit card company. This is very bad for victims because if you were just at Tysons Corner, and they go back to the Apple store in Tysons Corner, you will never know until you get a bill and realize you’re paying for that brand new MacBook Pro the bad guy charged. Like the video pointed out, many times when a person finds a really good bargain, they do not take the time to think about why the item is so cheap.

The missing piece in this video is an explanation of how he acquired the magnetic reader with data on it. The rampant nature of credit card fraud is going to eventually cause a shift in the way cards are authenticated, possibly forcing people to enter pins or use some other sort of multi-factor authentication. Or we can just stop using credit altogether!

Very informative yet scary. There are so many criminals out there who engage in these types of crimes and as technology advances, obtaining credit card information becomes easier and easier every day. I do wonder how the interviewer got the guy to do the interview and also how the guy gets the credit card information on his magnetic strip device in the first place.
