DEF CON 21 - Unexpected Stories From a Hacker Inside the Government
aholcom2at September 11,2015 Another video about the Silk Road (there are so many), this one is pretty good. I was always impressed on how long Silk Road was able to stay online. For those interested Wired has an amazing article going into extreme detail about the Rise and Fall of the Silk Road. http://www.wired.com/2015/04/silk-road-1/
I highly recommend it, its very good!
haygaffat October 01,2015 Tor is pretty awesome way to move data around. Especially if you are looking to making it difficult to be followed. Ross did make several rather big mistakes and I bet looking back he would do a few things differently. Like user names and user true personal information when you are remotely thinking about doing something illegal. Like most other criminals, they think they will never be caught and they are smarter than the cops or any other investigative branch of government. One day people will finally wake up and realize that there are some extremely talented people on both sides of technology. Bit Coin, Silk Road....it will all be rebuilt, rebranded for yet another long standing investigation.
sagarwa9at October 20,2015 Really liked the way law enforcement agency cracked down the case. This just reminds me no matter how smart a criminal is he/she always leaves a clue behind. The challenge is to find that clue.
sliu23at October 29,2015 In this video, I am impressed by the procedure that FBI digs out the real identity of DPR by utilizing the slight mistakes DPR made. Here I also notice that FriendlyChemist claimed to own the users name and trade information on the Silk Road. And he sent a sample to the DPR for the blackmail. I just wonder how FriendlyChemist collect the data, if it wasn’t fake information. Considering that DPR would like to pay RedHandWhite to assassin FriendlyChemist, the sample seems to be real. If FriendlyChemist could obtain this information through technical measure, FBI could also do it in the same way, which means they could not only destroy the Silk Road website but also dig out other dark network trading information in other black-market website in dark web by using similar technique.
Beggsseat October 30,2015 Learning about the existence of the black market marketplaces is really interesting. One of my interests is investigating money laundering and the use of Bit-Coin and electronic currencies really provides that anonymity that is needed. I was both taken with how quickly the Silk Road was up and running and laundering millions of dollars as well as how simply the mastermind, a real person behind his on-line character, made mistakes and trained agents were there to uncover them.
