tlawlessat July 09,2015 Sites like SilkRoad are a natural byproduct and outlet of a desire for cyber anonymity. The criminal element is just an evolution and application of the tool to a different market. If law enforcement is able to penetrate sites like this the the best course of action may be to engage in a dialogue. It goes back to the age old question of which is worse, the devil you know or the devil you don't?
achanthaat July 10,2015 I have never heard of Darknet or Silkroad until now so this video was very informative. Even with reviews and seller accountability, I'm not sure if buying drugs online is any safer or reliable than buying drugs off the street. Just like a drug dealer who can give you no and/or bad drugs and run off with your money, a seller online can do the same (as we saw in the video).
logybombat July 20,2015 The drug dealers of the future will definitely be communicating more through computer networks. I think the Silk Road failed probably because it grew too big. I think smaller networks in different locations around the world will continue to provide similar services, but will go unnoticed due to their smaller customer base. Drugs should be legal. If they were a lot of the appeal of the dark web would go away. I mean how many people want to voluntarily get involved in a secret underground network of child porn, hit men, and illegal weapon sales ?? My guess is not many, but when you add the availability of drugs then you get a massive number of people exploring the deep web. Not too mention drug cartels and such. Again, drugs should be made legal.
TimWalshat July 21,2015 I agree with the above comment. A big part of operating illicit trade is to go largely unnoticed by those willing/able to stop it. The Silk Road got very large to the point where it really could not be ignored.
I think there is something to be said for drug legalization. While on many levels I am opposed to it, economically the demand for drugs is not going away.
randerson0at July 22,2015 I don't think that the US government realized what people would be doing with the Darknet when they released it. I hope that 12 year old kids aren't using the Darkweb to buy illegal substances. It's no comfort that there are forums for people who need help quitting/cutting back.
